《中国概况》适用于以汉语为第二语言的学习者，包括来华留学生、孔子学院及孔子课堂等海外汉语学习者等，也适用于对中国文化感兴趣的学习者。本课程希望带领学习者领略中国历史文化精神，观览中国社会发展概况，感受中国文化的核心价值，产生深入了解中国的愿望，理解中国社会及文化发展的特点，感受中国的独特魅力。

本课程概括地讲授中国社会文化的背景知识和特点，重点介绍了中国的发展变化，讲出中国的核心价值，讲出中国文化的精髓，使学生不仅对中国社会发展和国情有较深的了解，而且对中国人的价值观念、思维方式、生活习俗、交往习惯等有进一步理解，尤其引导学生了解当下中国人生活中显性或隐性的制度文化、生活文化、物质文化、精神文化等，以增强跨文化交际能力和中国亲和感。同时，对学生深入学习汉语以及培养其对中国文化某些领域的兴趣也会起到辅助作用。

本课程包括9章，共26讲，可作为来华留学生的本科生及研究生“中国概况”必修课。本课程由北京语言大学郭鹏团队创作，是国家社科基金重大项目子课题和国家汉办/孔子学院总部汉语国际教育专业学位研究生教育研究课题的阶段性成果。

2023年5月，《中国概况》被评选为国家级本科一流学科。

China Panorama is designed for students who learn Chinese as the second language, including international students, overseas learners at Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms, as well as learners interested in Chinese culture. It describes the fundamentals of China's past and present and to introduce key topics such as Chinese society, lifestyle changes and China’s entry into the world stage, while at the same time touching on important areas of Chinese thoughts, logic and culture. We hope that as you study the course you will always bear in mind how the development of Chinese society has brought about many changes, whereas other areas have remained unchanged. It also provides topics for a dialogue that might provoke interest and discussion and thus further understanding of China.

China Panorama    gives a general introduction to the background knowledge and characteristics of Chinese society and culture, focusing on the development and changes of China, the core values of China and the essence of Chinese culture, so that students can not only have a better understanding of China's development and current situation, but also have more knowledge about the values of Chinese people, ways of thinking, social life and customs. The course particularly guides students to understand the tangible and intangible institutional culture, life culture, material culture, spiritual culture, etc. in Chinese life to enhance cross-cultural communication abilities and favorable views of China. At the same time, it will also help students to learn Chinese in depth and cultivate their interest in certain areas of Chinese culture.

This course consists of 9 chapters and 26 sessions. It can be used as a compulsory course for international undergraduates and postgraduates studying in China. This course is designed by the Prof. Guo Peng and his team from Beijing Language and Culture University. It is the outcome of the key project of the National Social Science Fund and the research project of the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).

China Panorama was selected as a National First-class Undergraduate Course in May 2023.
