本课程定位于高级阶段的英语学习者，以英语基础较好、英语需求较高的非英语专业大学生为主要目标群体，同时兼顾听力相对薄弱的研究生。课程教学目标主要是进一步提高学生的听力理解能力与听力策略运用能力；在进行英语听力技能训练的同时，重视中西方文化的对比与跨文化意识的培养。课程选取英语新闻、演讲、专题片、影视片段等原版视频或音频，作为语言输入与听力训练材料。根据听力材料的内容，分为六个单元，涵盖英语学习、性别角色、美国历史、中国文化、健康、教育六个话题。每个单元由“听力材料”、“听力练习”、“材料讲解”三大板块构成：“听力材料”板块一般有3-5个视频/音频，内容基于某个共同话题；每个视频/音频配有“听力练习”，题型主要为判断题与选择题；“材料讲解”是教师针对听力训练视频/音频中的语言特征、文化内容、听力难点以及听力技巧的运用对材料进行细致、深入的讲解。学生通过学习听力训练视频/音频、完成配套的听力练习、观看教师的讲解视频，可以有效提高听力技能。此外，本课程的主讲教师和助教全程在线，及时答疑解惑。
1）听力学习目标
能听懂一般日常英语谈话和公告；能基本听懂题材熟悉、篇幅较长、语速中等的英语广播、电视节目和其他音视频材料，掌握中心大意，抓住要点和相关细节；能较好地运用听力技巧。
2）跨文化学习目标
通过学习视听材料了解中西方文化的异同，树立世界眼光，培养国际意识，同时增强文化自信和爱国情怀。
