高级英语是英语专业高年级的核心课程，旨在全面提高学生的语言知识水平和综合语言运用能力。一是通过学习不同体裁和不同题材的英语国家文学作品，使学生能够具备扎实的英语语言基础知识以及英语语言学、文学、英语国家文化方面的知识。二是通过赏析文学作品，促进学生正确使用英语语言，培养学生的谋篇布局能力，逻辑思维能力和独立思考能力。三是融入思政育人元素，通过中西文化对比，拓宽学生的视野和视界，提高学生跨文化沟通能力，增强文化自信，培养学生的家国情怀。
该课程目标具有结构化和层次化，符合英语专业培养目标和《新国标》培养兼具中国情怀和国际视野的英语专业人才要求。
以OBE理念为指导，学生在完成本课程学习后，达到的知识、能力水平如下：
1. 通过学习不同体裁和不同题材的英语国家文学作品，使学生能够具备扎实的英语语言基础知识以及英语语言学、文学、英语国家文化等方面的知识，能够较全面地理解英文作品的文化内涵。
2. 通过赏析文学作品，培养学生的谋篇布局能力，逻辑思维能力和独立思考能力，能够用规范的英语语言进行写作。
3. 通过中西文化对比，拓宽学生的视野和视界，提高学生跨文化沟通能力，增强文化自信，在充分借鉴西方文化的基础上，推动中华传统优秀文化的创造性转化、创新性发展。
