spContent=Strategic Management is a one-semester course designed for those interested in acquiring a set of analytical tools and strategic thinking in managing a business. The course examines how firms can obtain and sustain competitive advantage and superior return through the development and implementation of strategies. Specifically, this course will cover how to analyze industry attractiveness, evaluate the competitive environment, identify business and corporate level strategies, assess the extent to which a company has a sustainable competitive advantage, and develop innovative strategies that open up uncontested market space. We will focus on strategies that develop and exploit 2 sources of superior returns: unique value-creating resources, and powerful positions in markets and supply chains.

Strategic Management is a one-semester course designed for those interested in acquiring a set of analytical tools and strategic thinking in managing a business. The course examines how firms can obtain and sustain competitive advantage and superior return through the development and implementation of strategies. Specifically, this course will cover how to analyze industry attractiveness, evaluate the competitive environment, identify business and corporate level strategies, assess the extent to which a company has a sustainable competitive advantage, and develop innovative strategies that open up uncontested market space. This course covers: (1) how to analyze industry attractiveness; (2) how to build and evaluate internal capabilities; (3) how to identify corporate and business level strategies; (4) how to develop strategies; (5) how to implement and assess strategies.

 

The students are expected to get to know: (1) theories and knowledge on strategic management; (2) analytical tools and techniques that assist in analyzing and developing strategies; (3) real world practice; (4) academic world studies; (5) The West and China; (6) social responsibility and strategy.
