<Apparel Product Development & Planning> is one of the core courses for FD (fashion design) & FDE (fashion design and engineering) major postgraduate students. It covers the history and scope of apparel product development, and the importance of various forms of fashion retail brands product development. The course introduces a specific target market, for a specific brand apparel product development process involved in the concept and method, and studied the product development process and stages, including from the study phase, the stage of production, and delivery stage of product.
《服装产品开发与企划》是服装设计与工程专业、服装与服饰设计专业的核心课程之一。它讲述了产品开发的历史和涵盖的内容,以及产品开发对各种零售类型的重要性。该课程从理论和实践上介绍了针对一个具体的顾客群和品牌,进行产品开发全过程的各个阶段,包括研究阶段,开发阶段,生产阶段,配送阶段等等。
Students will learn the corresponding marketing strategies and understand the various product factors when give a specific target market, such as the color, texture, fabric, shape, and other related research. Students will also simulate the actual product developing process in the related activities, understanding the relationship between planning stage and work stage.
学生将学习相应的营销战略,了解对于一个给定的细分市场,如何把握各产品要素,包括颜色、面料、款式等相关研究。学生还将在相关的学习活动中模拟真实的产品开发过程,了解产品企划阶段和实际执行阶段的相互关系。
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1. Identify the evolution, scope and current importance of product development to all forms of retail organization
2. Recognize the factors inherent in formulating a marketing strategy in targeting a given market segment
3. Conduct research to determine color, texture, fabric and silhouette directions for developing product for a given market segment
4. Establish the relationship between planning and the sequencing of events in the creation of product
5. Analyze cases and synthesize solutions relating to the activities involved in the process of developing product

Since 2000, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University started the cooperation with Fashion Institute of Technology, New York State University. We imported courses and textbooks from United States and sent teachers to New York as visiting scholars.

<Apparel Product Development & Planning> was established in 2002, was constructed as a bilingual teaching course in 2007, and as an all-in-English teaching course in 2014. Our team has accumulated plenty of abundant teaching material, cases and experiences, and always keep updating.

This course crosses knowledge from three majors that is Fashion Design, Engineering and Merchandising. We also combine the international conceptions with localized practical operation, so as to accommodate the learners to the globalization fashion tides better and faster.

Grading criteria of <Apparel Product Development & Planning>
[Grade]
Total grade of the course consists of the following parts:
1. Two assignments. Each accounts for 30%. Requirements will be delivered in announcement. Assignments will be graded according to the completion and quality.
2. Final exam. 40%. The highest grade will be the final if submitted for several times.
[Certificate]
If the total grade is between 60 to 84, the learner will be awarded Qualified Certificate.
If the total grade is 85 or above, the learner will be awarded Excellence Certificate.

【总成绩】
课程总成绩由两次单元作业及期末考试成绩组合而成。
1. 两次单元作业各占60%,作业要求见公告,按作业的完成度及完成质量给分;
2. 期末考试成绩占40%,多次提交后以最高值为最后得分。
【证书】
总评成绩达到60分~84分者,可以申请本课程的合格证书。
总评成绩达到85分及以上者,可以申请本课程的优秀证书。
