Biochemistry is the science concerned with the chemical basis of life, that is, with the chemical constituents of living cells and with the reactions and processes they undergo. By this definition, metabolism is one of the most important part in biochemistry. The teaching purpose of Metabolism of Biochemistry is to make the students understand at the molecular level of all chemical processes associated with living cells, clinical diseases and biological drugs. According to the necessity of medicine, the teaching program will focus on the basic concept and knowledge of the metabolism pathways of sugar, lipids and proteins.
This course focus on the biochemical metabolism, which is a highly coordinated cellular activity in the body. The numerous metabolic pathways cooperate to (1) obtain chemical energy; (2) convert nutrient molecules into the cell’s own characteristic molecules; (3) synthesize and degrade biomolecules required for specialized cellular functions.
