"General horticultural plant breeding "is based on the theory of modern genetics, ecology and biological evolution, and comprehensively applies the relevant theories and technologies of multiple disciplines to study the principles and methods of breeding new cultivars of horticultural plants and seed production. The main contents include the investigation of horticultural plant germplasm resources, selective breeding, sexual hybridization and heterosis breeding, mutation breeding, ploidy breeding, cultivar approval (Registration) and seed propagation, as well as the theory, method and technology of breeding new cultivars by these ways. Through the study of this course, we can combine the breeding of new cultivars of horticultural plants with people's production and life, and cultivate compound professionals who have profound and solid professional theoretical knowledge and can go deep into the front line of agricultural production to meet the needs of the society in the new era. It is a compulsory course for undergraduates and junior college students majoring in horticulture, facility agricultural science and engineering, and also an optional course for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in horticulture.
1. Understand the current situation, problems and development trend of horticultural plant breeding at home and abroad, as well as the latest breeding technology.
2. Be familiar with the basic principles of horticultural plant breeding course, basic breeding process and basic operation skills.
3. Make students learn how to use the theoretical knowledge and technical means of genetic breeding comprehensively to carry out effective genetic improvement on horticultural plants, so as to provide excellent new varieties for the production of horticultural plants.
4. Through the students of this course, students can engage in the technology and research of horticultural plant breeding.
