The course systematically expounds the basic concepts and practical methods of layout design, including design principles, modeling elements, rules of change, composition forms, visual processes and applications. It guides the students to understand and experience the performance characteristics of visual elements and constituent elements in design, improves their grasp of layout, and deepens their understanding of layout design.  And through the analysis of different types of layout design examples, this course can improve the students’ ability of layout design.

Firstly, the course sorts out organize the knowledge of layout design and consolidates students’ foundation of layout design.

The course seeks invariable rules in the changing layout design. It explains not only the basic layout design on this knowledge, but also the methods and skills to change on the basis, summarizes the rules, and studies the influence of text, picture and color on the layout. And it helps students to do better design.

Secondly, it introduces the method of learning layout design and the students can master the rules of layout design.

The course starts from the basic knowledge of layout design, consolidates the foundation, and introduces the methods, so that the students know what to design and how to do it. On the basis of solid design knowledge, students can obtain design “feel” through repeated and extensive training, and achieve knowledge accumulation and aesthetic training through design practice.

Lastly, it exposes students to the field of design and identifies the characteristics of design.

The course introduces the layout design of different sub-fields such as posters, promotional albums, magazines, newspapers, book binding and web design, so as to help students understand the characteristics of this design field, and the similarities and differences of layout design. It allows students to understand these design areas through case studies and apply what they have learned to practical work wherever possible.

This course will broaden the design vision and design thinking. And it achieves the purpose of conveying information by mobilizing visual elements and external forms.
