This course serves as an introduction to single variable calculus, in which basic theories such as limits, continuity, derivative and integral will be presented, with an emphasis on their applications in business, economics, life sciences and social sciences. It is oriented for freshmen of Business major. And upon competition of this course, they will acquire the knowledge of the basic theory of single variable calculus, have the ability of problem analyzing, solving and application, and most importantly gradually develop the quality of scientific exploration and innovation.

The textbook (excellent international textbooks in Mathematics)《Calculus for Business, Economics, life Sciences and Social Sciences(Ninth Edition)》by Higher Education Press is adopted. And it will cover the following topics in Calculus: Chap3 The Derivative, Chap4 Graphing and Optimization, Chap5 Additional Derivative Topics, Chap 6 Integration, and Chap7 Additional Integration Topics.

 Upon competition of this course, they will acquire the knowledge of the basic theory of single variable calculus, have the ability of problem analyzing, solving and application, and most importantly gradually develop the quality of scientific exploration and innovation.

Course Grade: It consists of online and offline contributions, each of which is specified as follows

Ø  Online grade (35%): (1) Watching lecture videos: 5%;  (2) Homework: 15%;  (3) Quizzes: 15%;

Ø  Offline grade (65%): (1) Attendance: 5%;   (2) Final exam: 60%.

Besides no more than 3% of bonus credits will be given for active and helpful discussion and postings in the online forum, solely to the discretion of the instructor. (If all scores total more than 100% in the end, the grade will be 100 %.)
