Engineering Mechanics is a fundamental course for engineering students. This course is intended to provide students with a clear and thorough picture of the theory and application of statics and mechanics of materials. Statics mainly studies the general laws of equilibrium of rigid bodies. Mechanics of materials deals with the stress, strain, and stability of components under tension/compression, shear, torsion, bending or combined deformation. This course will provide the necessary mechanics points for the followed course in engineering major. After the study of this course, students are expected to be able to use the basic concepts and theories of mechanics to analyze and solve simple problems in engineering application. Another goal of this course is to effectively train students' logic thinking skills and improve their comprehensive quality.
The course grade (totally 100 points) will be based on 8 hwks, one per week and the Final Exam.
